Fort Lauderdale

Today I returned from an AMAZING 5 day vacation to Fort Lauderdale, FL. I haven't had this much fun since New Orleans although I'm sure my Orlando trip this Thursday (for Gay Days 2005) will prove to be just as amazing. There is nothing like getting away for a few days not worrying about anything, hanging with friends, and meeting new ones. And Aaron and I did just that.

On Thursday, I anxiously hopped on my 8am flight from Boston to Florida. After 3 days of rain and 40 degree weather, the idea of seeing the sun and feeling its warmth was exciting. LOL! I was getting out of the city for the first time since my January trip to L.A. and I couldn't wait to get there and out on the beach.

Now, I'm not a beach person in general. When I travel, I like to try to do a lot of different things, get a feel for the place I'm visiting, the people, etc... NOT spend all day on the beach. Well, in Ft. Lauderdale, that changed. I was at the beach every day and even ventured down the coast with some new friends to Haulover Beach, a clothing-optional area. Now... you would think that it would be a great place to check out guys, but no. The people that are on the beach naked should NOT be naked. All the hot ones still have all of their clothes on. I didn't really understand that. Although, I did keep mine on; there's nothing of mine to see anyway.

Thursday night we headed out to Georgie's Alibi in Wilton Manors, the Ft. Lauderdale-area gayborhood. It's in a gay strip mall, believe it or not, with a few other bars, clubs, and gay-themed stores. Interesting crowd. Friday night we ventured down to Miami and ended up at Score and Twist, two places that put every Boston bar and club to shame. It seems so many other places can manage to that, but I won't rant about it here. So Saturday was a leisurely day spent going to the gym, the beach, out for sushi, a quick nap and then off to Coliseum. It was fetish night, Chris Cox was spinning, and the place was filled with thousands of hot, hot, hot men. I can't even describe it. Sunday was another leisure day gawking at the boys on beach and in the water. There were just too many things to look at.

Anyway, I don't want to go hour by hour, but wanted to give you guys some links to check out for the places I went to. There are so many more places to go, but I recommend any of the places I went to. It's a great town, great weather, friendly people... a return visit will definitely be in order once this New York situation settles down.

Zero Time

So much is going on lately... I barely have time to churn through it, much less post about it. I should be sleeping, but I'm scouring through Manhattan apartments! I have to be up in 4 hours to catch my 8a flight to Fort Lauderdale for a much needed 5 days of rest, relaxation, and sun. I'm hoping it will also clear my mind a little in preparation for all that will be happening in the next few weeks.

Anyway, I'm off!! I hope all you Boston folks don't get too wet from the monsoon currently hitting New England. Stay dry and happy Memorial Day.

Life Changes

It's pretty much official... I'm moving to New York.

Rainy Days

I hate rainy days. It seems like every time I am couped up in my apartment on a rainy day, things that are bothering me (or have bothered me in the past) come screaming to the forefront of my mind. And then its a train-wreck from that point on because all there is to do on a rainy day is ponder all these things.

Rainy days also have me listening to a lot of music which also gets me into trouble. It is almost inevitable that I will find a song that either drums up old emotions or simply characterizes my emotions at that point in time.

Now, I used to be a Backstreet Boys fan back in high school (what can I say, I was a gay teenager and they were cute!), but they somewhat disappeared for a few years. Apparently, according to their interview on Ellen, the hiatus was due to marriages, alcohol abuse by one member, real estate investment ventures, blah, blah, blah... They are back singing again (recently toured and stopped at Avalon Boston) and their new single Incomplete absolutely characterizes my feelings today. As much as I don't want it to, and as much as I try to get rid of these emotions, this song brought a flood of questions and zero answers. Typical... and why I hate rainy days.

A Walk in the Garden

Boston's Public Garden is one of the most beautiful areas in the city. I was walking through tonight on my way home from work and a haircut. The sun was setting behind me as I made my way from back Bay to Chinatown. The Public Garden is one of those places in the city that just puts you in a peaceful state as soon as you set foot inside the gates.

Volunteer Day

Yesterday, the office was closed and about 300+ employees took a bus to Duxbury, MA to volunteer at a summer camp for underprivileged kids. We did everything from paint the administrative offices, build tee-pees for the kids, plants fruits and vegetables for them to learn about, and built a greenhouse...

It was great to be able to get away from the computer for a day, meet coworkers (so many people I don't know at work, it's crazy!), and do something for the community. I did leave with a slight burn on my neck and nose, but it was worth it.

Head-spinning

It has been a while since my last post... and seeing as how it's a Thursday night and I'm not out, you KNOW there is something going on. LOL!

The past week has been so crazy that my head is spinning. Last week I was approached by an old manager that now works in my company's New York office about a job that was opening up there. I made a few calls and got some information about it, but wasn't exactly serious about anything. Monday rolled around and my staffing manager called an impromptu meeting with me and things started rolling. I may be moving to the City of New York.

Nothing is set in stone, but I have been looking at apartment listings and preparing myself for the possibility. Do I want to leave Boston? Yes. Is New York a place I would like to live? Yes. Am I 100% ready? No.

While I've wanted to leave for some time now, the fact that it has become a real option took me off-guard. There is a lot to leave behind here in Boston, a city I've lived in for almost 7 years. Both of my past boyfriends, ALL of my friends, all the memories I have... my entire adult life has been built in Boston. I don't know anything but this place.

I don't know what I will do, although I know I am leaning towards taking the opportunity if it works out. I know that the decision to move will disappoint a lot of people in my life, but I hope they realize that its a step I think I need to take to improve myself and my happiness. And also realize that they'll have a place to crash when they visit the Big Apple.  ;-)

Tired

Wow... too many things going on in my life right now. I wanted to write something, but am too tired to elaborate. Anyway, maybe something tomorrow, we'll see...

In a Lull

As avid readers, I'm sure that you've noticed that the past few entries have been less and less personal. I've found myself in a weird place since last week and I just don't know how to describe it. Dating life is still in limbo, rekindled friendships are dying fast, and old love is resurfacing.

I don't know what to make of it all... I have interest in a few different people, which has never happened before. I usually work on one at a time so I feel out of place and somewhat guilty with my situation now. And a friendship I was working on rebuilding fell flat on its face last night, and not by my doing at all. But, it just pointed out to me that people do not change at all, no matter how much time or reason you give them to do so. And last night I had a talk with Nick about how I felt then and how I feel now. It wasn't a discussion at all to try to "get him back" but more a talk about some things that I think I just needed closure on. It was pretty positive, but I cried. I think it's clear neither one of us realized how good we really had it at the time. It's kind of sad, for me anyway, to think that we missed out on something because we didn't notice what was right in front of us.

I feel like I'm in a really weird place... almost a lull, but not really. A place right on the border between being sad and being happy. I should be happy; there are a lot of things going for me. I'm doing things I've never done before, but also trying things I shouldn't, and still trying to balance it all out. It's not easy. But then again, no one ever said life was easy anyway.
