Last night I attended an art benefit at Christie's, the famed auction house in New York with my friend Jim. Jim and I actually met in Miami at Vizcaya during the White Party. Jim is actually from New Orleans; the art benefit was doing a silent auction and regular auction of art from NOLA artists to support rebuilding the city.
It was my first time at Christie's and my first time at such a fancy event in New York. Though I refused to wear a suit or tuxedo (tux would have been overkill) I did manage to arrange an ensemble that had a high-collared dark brown zip up under my tan blazer. I'm sure there is a picture of me wearing the same thing somewhere on this blog. I really like the look. Its not too dressy, but not too casual and it allows me to get through the evening without having to be in an uncomfortable suit and tie. Frankly, I think I pull it off quite well.
But anyway, I was grateful to Jim for inviting me to such an exciting and exclusive event. I met a few people there and exchanged emails, so hopefully I'll be on someone's list to attend more events like this one. I also met Jim's friend Kirk, an adorable boy in his late 20's who is too cute and charming for his own good and lives here in NY. Hopefully, I'll get to see more of him.
I had to leave the Christie's event a little early to head over to Brian C's birthday party at GSTAAD, a cute bar/lounge on 26th and 6th. Brian had grabbed the back room for all of his friends... and he has a lot of them. I used the opportunity to network and try to get people to apply to a job at my company so I can get that referral bonus. LOL! And I even met a woman who knows someone I work with; I'll be attending a charity event of hers in April.
Not having gone out to really drink hard, I seem to get hammered really fast. I had two glasses of Prosecco and I was already being overly friendly. John and Nick (my ex) joined us later in the evening and poor John had to deal with me hugging and wrapping my arms around him for awhile. I didn't even realize it until Ken pointed it out at our 2am brunch at Venus Diner. Oops! Hope he didn't mind. LOL!
So, yeah... brunch at about 2am with me, Ken, and Brian W (who was also TRASHED) and then off to grab a cab to get my ass home. And now, I've got to clean the apartment. Nick and John are coming out to Brooklyn for dinner and to see my place. It will be the ex's first time seeing my place in NY. It'll probably be a bit awkward for me, it always is. But, I am looking forward to it.
